Remember when learning cursive was mandatory in school? Well, I loved it and happily use my cursive on the regular basis. However, the current font you see on bags to signs to cards uses a modified cursive style that I could NOT figure out how to write. Then one day, when needing to write up some thank you cards, I had a light bulb: I bet there are font generators that help create handwritten fonts! And there was! I just searched for “modern calligraphy generator” and came up with tons of options. The easiest to use, allowed me to enter any text I wanted, and it would create a list of cursive font styles that wrote my custom entry.
Now, you might have already checked out because I hear a lot of people say “I have bad handwriting” – You might not have great handwriting, but tracing is a different skill! It’s SOOO much easier.
After copying the writing from your font generator, use your pen to make the lines fatter. All the “up & down” vertical lines should be fatter, ie the “stem” of the “f” should be fat, the horizontal line on the “f” should remain skinny.
For borders, you can search for “Hand drawn borders” and find something interesting to copy from there too.
And why stick with a black pen on a white card? Switch it up – like this white gel pen on a strong solid color. This winter I’ll try the white ink on a navy colored card!
